CULTURAL-BIAS uncovered in major study
The issue of cultural bias and its negative impacts on the horseracing industry were discovered during the Project Metamorphosis study, which had been prepared for The Jockey Club® starting in 2012 by consulting company Creatorans™. In 2013, the company released results of its study under Report 1 of the 6-part study and solution series. The study revealed consumer segments critical to the industry's future and current health were increasingly suffering the negative impacts of cultural-biasing, an aspect of consumer cultures whereby consumers tend to see an offering as being closer to a cultural Taboo than a Value (as measured by cultural bias assessment tools).
Of course, other aspects, such as a weakened economy, smaller wallet, competitive interests, lack of appropriate marketing budgets, loss of venues, excessive take-out rates, integrity, safety, image control, and more were also documented to be ill-affecting horseracing. However, the study's key finding revealed that cultural-biasing issues were not being addressed by the industry and were trending across North America at alarming rates.
